Why I think YOU deserve a massage
First, let’s start with the excuses not to:
No time to fit it in
It's too expensive
I will survive without one!
Many of us are very hard on ourselves. We have high expectations and are self critical. We work too hard or feel bad if we don't work enough. We think too much about the past and way too much about the future and over analyse life, it's exhausting! Oh and we don't get enough sleep!
Still think you don't need to rest?
From the moment we wake we begin working through the to-do list, working, cooking, childcare, even if we are sitting we are thinking about what we should/could be doing. It is hard to switch off but very important to find a way to do so.
Why should we switch off?
To be free from worry, overthinking, and planning. To help recover the mind and to rest the physical body.
What does this mean?
To always be thinking and working is exhausting. In order to fully recover and help the mind and body recuperate requires you to clear the mind and relax the body.
How do I do it though?
Top of the list is to get a full restful night's sleep, obviously there are obstacles in the way including time and childcare, but work through those phases with quick power naps and restful periods. Remember, they won't last forever.
Other activities include; clearing the mind with meditation and breathing techniques; a warm bath, ideally with epsom salts; exercise with appropriate rest to recover if intense, but also whatever works for you! With any chosen method it is important to try clearing the mind, which may only last for a second or two at first but then clear it again. It all takes practice, but eradicate the overthinking during your method of rest.
It is hard to get a second of this most days for many of us, so it becomes important to schedule in some recuperation. Yes this involves planning, but the moment you begin your “session” (whatever that may be) is where you will focus on you.
How can massage help?
The mind and body are one. If you try to relax the body without the mind too then you may find it not fully restful, hence unrestful sleep. If you can clear the mind but without focus on the body tension builds up in our physical body thus stress is transferable from mind to body and vice versa.
Massage is an excellent way at tackling both. We are experts at relaxing the body, even our sports and deep tissue massages require an intune therapist to help ease tension rather than create it. It can take practice to switch off the mind but with peaceful music, and focus on your massage, we can achieve this too.
How to find the time?
So time may be a big issue. But part of looking after ourselves should include making time for things that will improve our well being thus improving life around us. We come to you and for local clients, we may even have a 30 minute appointment available! Time is exactly the reason why you need this moment, to take time for yourself is essential, slow time down by doing something different. Time appears to fly by when we do the same thing because the brain is so used to those pathways. By creating new ones via new experiences, you experience the sensation of more time. (Don't worry regular clients no two massages are ever the same.)
The money issue
Ok so this one may take more consideration as money is tight for many of us at the moment. But here are some thoughts-
1 daily coffee / month = 1 massage
1 weekly bought lunch / month = 1 massage
We can easily spend money on little purchases that if saved may amount to a massage. By all means continue the coffee but maybe save the change for a full mind and body recovery which will have longer lasting effects and is proven to enhance sleep and ease anxiety and depression.
Don't just survive…thrive.
Yes we can survive with our aches and pains and fatigue and stress. But, although there are moments in life where we do need to push through and manage the best we can, I want to tell you, that there is also help out there.
