A therapist’s massage review.
The best way I can explain to you all the benefits of a good massage is to review one of the best massages I have ever had myself! Us therapists can find it hard to relax in treatment, to not critique and analyse the techniques and sometimes feel like we are missing something. However, I have recently experienced a fantastic massage and here is why, and what you should expect from your therapist, or what to ask for to experience optimum benefits.
What the therapist did well
Welcome and good communication, awareness of what areas to be addressed.
Checked comfort and temperature
Clear instructions
Breathe awareness
A thorough and detailed treatment encompassing a full body experience as booked. Tight areas acknowledged and worked on with good pressure. Not too light and not too deep.
Good flow throughout treatment promoting circulation and optimum relaxation.
Great work on head and face and even the hair got a massage and oil!
Use of tailored essential oils
What you can do to help relax in to the treatment
Focus on your breathing, breathe through your nose for 3-4 seconds in and the same for exhale.
Try to “let go” of your muscle tension by softening your muscles and limbs, you may need to continually tune in to this particular over tight areas.
Make sure you are happy with the temperature and pressure throughout, this may change during the treatment, so make the therapist aware.
To relax the mind try using the word “stop” silently to yourself, to reset over thinking and zone into your breathing.
Be present and enjoy the moment. Focus on the massage, your body and the effects.
What you will experience - the true benefits of massage
Deep sighs - a release of tension through subconscious breath, enjoy these moments, catch them and inhale as much as you can and do the same on exhale.
Muscle tension release, softening of tight muscle, notice this in the shoulders and glutes particularly.
Improved digestion / gut health / constipation - ask for work on the tummy. It works wonders!
Emotional release, if you have been able to truly relax you may feel emotional as negative energy leaves the body.
Smiling, allow your face to also relax, sometimes even with our eyes closed our faces are tense. Allow your forehead to uncrease and your mouth to smile.
Decongestant - chest, nasal and ears. Expect a possible ear popping, nose streaming and chest clearing depending on where your toxins lie.
Self care is so important for our mind and body, it also improves our relationships with people, work and life in general! There are many things we may choose to do to help us relax but speaking as a receiver of massage it really did have a profound effect.
At PWR we strive to give our best massage to every client. We hope that you leave feeling the way I did and you truly feel rejuvenated.
